Cross-country skier Krista Pärmäkoski announced that she will extend her career for an additional two seasons. The 33-year-old athlete from Kuortane made this exciting revelation on Saturday during a live broadcast with Yle at the Kuortane GP athletics event.

In her announcement, Pärmäkoski credited her recent World Cup victory in Lahti as a major factor in her decision to keep competing. She expressed her enduring passion for the sport, noting her enthusiasm and potential. Despite the hard work involved in training throughout the long summer and autumn months, she finds enough joy in it to make the choice to continue feel relatively effortless.

Looking ahead, the upcoming season will feature the World Championships taking place in Trondheim, Norway, from late February to early March, followed by the 2026 Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina, Italy. Pärmäkoski aims to achieve her first top podium finish at these prestigious events.

Over the course of her career, she has amassed an impressive collection of 12 medals from major championships. Representing Finland at four Olympic Games, she has secured one individual silver and three bronze medals, along with a silver in the relay. At the World Championships, her haul includes two silver and five bronze medals.

After the final World Cup stage last March, Pärmäkoski was initially uncertain about her future. Her name was not included in the A national team roster released in May, with the Finnish Ski Association indicating that discussions regarding her potential team membership would follow her decision about continuing her career.
