Local Club Joyfully Welcomes MM Medalist Lauri Vuorinen – "It Feels Incredible"
The double MM medalist Lauri Vuorinen was warmly welcomed back at Rovaniemi's airport after competing in the Trondheim championships. A group of ten youngsters from the Ounasvaara Ski Club greeted him with blue and white caps, ski poles, and banners that said, "Congratulations Lauri!" which made the medalist smile widely. Vuorinen, who returned home with a bronze and a silver medal hanging around his neck, expressed his joy by saying, "Thank you, this is... I’m totally speechless right now!"
He described the experience as incredible upon seeing the crowd waiting for him and admitted feeling a bit nervous.
In the past eight days, Vuorinen has achieved remarkable feats: first, a historic third place in the men's sprint, followed by a silver in the men's team relay alongside Ristomatti Hakola.
Also at the airport to greet him was Pirjo Muranen (formerly Manninen), who now serves as the chairwoman of the ski department of the Ounasvaara Ski Club.
“It’s been 16 years since I last won a medal in sprinting, so now I can pass on the torch to the athlete in our club,” she said.
Rovaniemi city plans to honor Lauri Vuorinen later on. He will be available to meet the public at the upcoming spring competition at Ounasvaara this Sunday, March 9, at 14:30.
The excitement surrounding his achievements has captured the attention of young skiers. Thirteen-year-olds Abel Sieppi and Eeli Kuoksa watched Vuorinen’s bronze finish from a sauna cabin and the cottage, creating lasting memories.
