Early Opening of SnowTrack in Kontiolahti this Thursday

In Kontiolahti, the skiing season at the biathlon stadium is set to commence on Thursday, October 17. The snow, which was made last winter, has already been spread over the tracks ahead of the official opening on Friday.
The approximately one-kilometer-long early snow track will be available for skiing for free starting at 1 PM on the opening day. This year, the municipality of Kontiolahti has taken on the maintenance of the track. The snow was stored over the summer inside the stadium.
Starting from Friday, day and season passes will be sold for the early snowtrack, which will be required for skiers from that point onward. Additionally, the municipality offers free skiing sessions for its residents.
Competition amongst early-season skiers has increased in Eastern Finland, especially with the availability of cooled tracks in Kontiolahti, as well as tracks opening in locations like Tahko in Nilsiä, Imatra, and the recently minted free track in Liperin Pärnävaaran, which will open later in the fall.
The 2023 skiing season is thus set to get underway under these circumstances. The stored snow track has a long-standing tradition in Kontiolahti, adding a unique atmosphere to early winter skiing.
