Klæbo's Lighthearted Take on Johaug's Comeback: 'I'm Glad She's Not Competing Against Me'

Johannes Høsflot Klæbo has expressed his admiration for Therese Johaug's exceptional talent, admitting that the thought of competing against the reigning queen of cross-country skiing in the upcoming 50 km at the World Championships in Granåsen is not something he would relish.
With Johaug set to return to competitive skiing, targeting the World Championships in her hometown of Trondheim, the 50 km event has become a focal point of her comeback.
During a recent press conference held during his training camp in the U.S., Klæbo was asked for his thoughts on Johaug's much-anticipated return. In his trademark humorous style, he said, “First and foremost, I’m glad she won’t be competing in the men’s class. Competing against her in the 50 km would be a real challenge.”
He continued, “Her comeback is fantastic for skiing's popularity. Therese is a significant figure in our sport, and we all know the magic she brings to the trails.”
On the topic of Johaug’s performance post-pregnancy, Klæbo remarked, “I’m excited to see what she can achieve. I can’t wait to watch her in action.”
Johaug herself plans to participate in eight races leading up to the World Championship, with only four being World Cup events. Consequently, it appears she will not compete in any international events from Christmas until the start of the World Championship in February. Klæbo noted, “It will be intriguing to see which races she enters before the World Championships, and there’s no doubt she’ll be aiming to perform at her best.”
Fans can catch their first glimpse of Johaug on the cross-country scene during the traditional national opening at Beitostølen at the end of November, where Klæbo will also be testing his own form.
