Klæbo Bypasses World Cup Event for Training
World Cup leader Johannes Høsflot Klæbo is skipping the upcoming World Cup race scheduled for this weekend in Cogne, Italy.
The Tronder athlete recently achieved victories in both the sprint and the 20-kilometer race at Engadin in Switzerland. This time, however, he has decided to focus on training instead of competing.
Astrid Øyre Slind, who is among the contenders for the upcoming World Championships, will be participating in Cogne. She won the 20-kilometer race in Engadin and currently leads the distance cup rankings in the World Cup, placing second overall behind Jessie Diggins from the USA.
The World Cup event in Cogne kicks off with a team sprint in classic style on Friday. The individual sprint in classic sprint format will follow on Saturday, concluding with a 10-kilometer interval start in freestyle on Sunday.
There will be no World Cup competitions in cross-country skiing next weekend, with the next scheduled event set for Falun from February 14 to 16. The best athletes are anticipated to compete there again, including Therese Johaug.
