The first snow ski trail at Joupiska is now open, with many skiers already taking advantage of the track. The city of Seinäjoki has established a trail of over one kilometer for winter sports enthusiasts. The track relies on stored snow from last season, resting under a pile of sawdust during the summer.
City sports manager Mika Rinta-Keturi emphasizes that the stored snow remains compact and will suffice for a functional ski trail despite the lack of current freezing temperatures, although rain could jeopardize the condition of the snow.
However, due to budget constraints, the city decided not to create a first snow trail at Tanelinlammelle this year, leaving the future of that project uncertain and primarily dependent on potential external contributions.
In Lapua, preparations are also underway for a first snow trail at Simpsiö, with the local recreation manager Seppo Pohjonen promising completion within the coming days. The Simpsiö trail will also span around one kilometer, contingent on the available amount of stored snow.
