Therese Johaug faced a challenging race in Ruka, where she finished fourth in the 20-kilometer mass start, falling behind Jessie Diggins, Jonna Sundling, and Heidi Weng. Johaug commented on the course's difficulties, expressing that competitors don't gain sufficient rewards for their efforts due to the design that tends to favor those who can utilize downhill sections more effectively. She highlighted, 'The downhills come pretty fast after the climbs, and those behind can just stay tucked in and push.'

Johaug also reflected positively on her performance despite the setback, noting that she felt good throughout the race and is ahead of her own training schedule. Looking forward, she hinted at potentially participating in two World Cup weekends before Christmas, suggesting her plans to race in Davos as well, which was not initially part of her schedule. The competition in Ruka marks a significant moment for Johaug, as her previous World Cup victory dates back to March 2022 in Falun.

Meanwhile, Weng also praised her performances despite not securing the win, stating the competition in extremely cold conditions was a test for her stamina and tactical prowess. As the World Cup season progresses into Lillehammer next weekend, where a 10-kilometer free technique and a sprint will take place, Johaug and her competitors look to continue building on their early season results.
