Johaug Admits Olympic Dream is More Realistic

Therese Johaug (36) reveals that her Olympic aspirations are becoming more plausible, following advice from King Harald, which heightened her conviction.

In an interview with NRK, Johaug explained her mixed feelings regarding her future in sports, particularly whether she will compete in the upcoming Olympics.

"I often find myself feeling frustrated over missed opportunities, especially the 50km race where I feel my performance didn't reflect my capabilities. The pressure to succeed in the Olympics is palpable," Johaug stated.

She noted the significance of maintaining focus, especially as she approaches a key deadline for her decision. ‘‘If I were 99% decided on retirement, that's shifted slightly as of late. But it’s difficult to gauge my emotions," Johaug explained, indicating a continual internal conflict on her future pursuits in the sport.

Speaking about her meeting with King Harald, she recounted the monarch's encouragement to chase her Olympic dream, which resonated deeply with her.

Johaug admitted that balancing her career and family aspirations complicates her decision-making. "It's crucial that I explore this further before making any final commitments," she affirmed. As she navigates this uncertainty, it’s clear her competitive spirit remains strong, even amid personal considerations.
