Therese Johaug has been under the spotlight due to Petter Northug setting high expectations for her ahead of her comeback at Beitostølen this weekend, where she will compete in the 10 km race. After being away from competition since 2021 and transitioning into motherhood, she is set to return to competitive racing.

In an interview, Johaug embraced the expectations but made it clear that she is still finding her footing after her time off. "I know there are expectations out there, and I understand that. I've performed at a very high level before, and my ambitions aren't to fight for fifth or tenth place at the World Championships. I'm comfortable with that pressure," she remarked.

The 36-year-old noted that she has not raced a 10 km since her return and is still adjusting to the competitive environment. Furthermore, although Northug believes she remains as strong as before and expects her to perform well, Johaug humbly states, "I am not at the level I once was. I have to be honest about that."

Johaug boasts a remarkable record at Beitostølen, having won her last 11 distance races there. The World Cup season kicks off in Ruka next weekend, where Johaug plans to compete, followed by more events in Lillehammer and Davos, leading up to her potential last races before the World Championships in Granåsen in January.
