Jasmi Joensuu is poised to become the second Finnish skier ever to win the sprint cup this week, an extraordinary achievement alongside her idol, Virpi Kuitunen, who won it during the 2006-2007 season. Joensuu's current standing ahead of the final sprint competitions in Tallinn and Lahti indicates her potential to clinch the title, with her lead over third-place Nadine Fähndrich at 157 points, and fourth-place Maja Dahlqvist by 163 points.
With only two races left in the world cup sprint schedule, Joensuu states, "I feel I have a good chance to deliver results, aiming for the podium and not just to participate. I intend to avoid any unnecessary risks."
The former champion Kuitunen, who achieved remarkable success in the 2006-2007 season, including sprint and distance titles, serves as an inspiration for Joensuu. Kuitunen was a significant figure in Joensuu's career and helped her navigate the challenges of professional skiing. If Joensuu can win the sprint cup, it would signify a major honor, and she believes her consistent performance throughout the season has brought her to this crucial point.
