Iivo Niskanen Stops Norwegian Dominance in World Cup Opener

Iivo Niskanen claimed victory in the World Cup opener held in Ruka, Finland. The Finnish skier broke the Norwegian dominance that has often characterized the men's 10-kilometer classic race, finishing with a significant margin of 12.5 seconds ahead of his competitors.

"It feels incredible," Niskanen told SVT Sport after the race. Niskanen led the entire race from start to finish, ensuring that the Norwegian skiers could not secure a clean sweep on the podium.

In a surprising turn, Johannes Hösflot Kläbo, the Norwegian star, had a disappointing performance, finishing 28 seconds behind and missing the podium entirely. Kläbo had aimed for an eighth consecutive win but was unable to keep pace with Niskanen.

The race concluded with Harald Östberg Amundsen in second place, followed by Martin Löwström Nyenget in third. Sweden's best performer was Jens Burman, who finished in seventh place, 37 seconds behind Niskanen.

Niskanen's victory seems to set a competitive tone as he prepares for the World Championships in Trondheim, adding pressure but also excitement for what lies ahead in the season.
