The Huhtiniemi ski trail in Lappeenranta is set to open this weekend, allowing residents to enjoy cross-country skiing. The city has begun snow transportation for the early snow trail, aiming for completion by the weekend. Although the exact opening date is still to be confirmed, similar preparations in previous years took four to five days to complete.

Marko Siltamies, the city’s maintenance manager, mentioned that if the ground becomes too slippery due to snow and frost, it may slightly delay the process. The ski trail follows a familiar route from previous years and measures 1.4 kilometers in length. Should snow reserves allow, there are plans to widen the section adjacent to the skate park that is used by ski schools.

The total cost for establishing the ski trail is estimated at around €75,000, with skiers contributing a voluntary support fee of €25. Another early snow trail at Imatra's Ukonniemi was opened on October 17.
