Norwegian cross-country skier Helene Marie Fossesholm, 23, has encountered a significant setback just months after her return to the sport. During a football tournament, she suffered a serious knee injury, recounting, "I screamed at first because it hurt a lot right when it happened."

The injury occurred shortly after she entered the field and became entangled in a tackle. Upon realizing the gravity of her situation, she looked down to find her kneecap dislocated. "Everything was in the wrong place. The kneecap was not where it was supposed to be," she recalled with dismay.

Emergency Hospital Visit

Fossesholm was quickly transported to a hospital in Oslo, where doctors managed to reposition her dislocated kneecap before taking an X-ray. "That was the worst part; I went pale and felt like I needed a bag to vomit into," she shared. Fortunately, the X-ray revealed no loose bone fragments associated with her knee injury. However, an MRI will be conducted once the swelling has diminished.

Having made her competitive comeback in February after more than a year away from the sport, this latest injury presents yet another formidable challenge for Fossesholm as she seeks to regain her footing in cross-country skiing.
