German Ski Milestone Achieved! "For us, this is historic"

A historic achievement for German skiing has been completed as Victoria Carl finished second in the overall World Cup standings, marking a significant step forward for the sport in Germany.

Success at the World Cup

Following Coletta Rydzek's double victory, Victoria Carl capped off the World Cup season with an impressive performance in the final race. During the classical marathon over 50 kilometers, Carl secured an eighth place, ensuring her spot as the second-best over the season behind Jessie Diggins from the USA.

"I hope this gives cross-country skiing in Germany a significant boost. We can do it!" Carl stated. National coach Peter Schlickenrieder commented, "This second place by Victoria is historic for us. One has to be consistently among the best in so many events to achieve this."

Around €47,900 in prize money was awarded to Carl, who also finished third in the distance World Cup. Prior to this season, only Evi Sachenbacher-Stehle’s two fourth-place finishes (in 2003/04 and 2005/06) were Germany's best results in the overall World Cup standings for women.

Reflecting on Recent Success

The weekend in Lahti was historic for the Rydzek family as well, with Coletta's triumph in the team sprint allowing for a sweet farewell to the World Cup season for the German team. This marked the first German team sprint victory in the World Cup since 2010.

Overall, this remarkable weekend underscores the potential and capabilities of German athletes on the international skiing stage as they look ahead to future competitions.
