Frida Karlsson's Response to Therese Johaug: "Her Game"

Therese Johaug has completely shifted the focus of favorite status over to Frida Karlsson ahead of a potential duel in this weekend's World Championship skiathlon. This is something the Swedish athlete is not taking too seriously.

– It is her game, says Karlsson.

This weekend, the ski World Championships continue with a 20 kilometer skiathlon. The men will compete first tomorrow, but the major topic is the duel between Therese Johaug and Frida Karlsson expected on Sunday.

Johaug has placed the pressure entirely on the shoulders of the Swede. At a press conference, the Norwegian called Karlsson the clear favorite and described her recent World Cup races as "frightening".

Karlsson takes Johaug's words calmly.

– She usually likes to paint someone other than herself as the favorite. That is her game.

Karlsson understands why Johaug uses that tactic.

– It seems that everyone wants to talk themselves down a bit right now. I can understand that. You want to have the least to lose, unlike Kläbo in the sprint. Then you have everything to lose.

"What Has Saved Me"

The Swedish skier is chasing her first individual World Championship gold after a season marred by injuries. Karlsson has only competed in seven races this winter but feels confident as she is in Norwegian Trondheim.

– What has saved me now is that I have performed well when I have competed. I have felt a calmness returning to training. Now I have been at altitude for almost five weeks and usually get good results from that. So I hope the plan B for this season has still become a recipe for success.
