It is already confirmed that Frida Karlsson will not participate in this weekend's World Cup events in Davos. Now the ski star may also have to miss the Tour de Ski.

"She has to take it slow and be careful now. The World Championships are the goal – and we do not want to risk anything," says coach Per Nilsson in Expressen's podcast "Vallaboden".

Frida Karlsson has participated in three World Cup races this season; in Lillehammer, she had to drop out of the skiathlon due to the ongoing issues.

The injury, which she has been dealing with since an overload issue in her foot last autumn, flares up when she competes hard – and then requires downtime. "The situation is somewhat tricky right now," Nilsson adds.

According to him, Karlsson is otherwise in good physical shape, as evidenced by her victory in the World Cup opener in Ruka.

Now, Karlsson has to adjust her plans to find the best path leading up to the World Championships in Trondheim at the end of February. She has already confirmed she will skip the competitions in Davos, and it is now uncertain whether she can compete in the Tour de Ski starting December 28.

"Given that she had symptoms after just one race in the first weekend and two the second weekend, it is something to consider. Seven tough races during the tour feel risky for her," says Nilsson. However, a decision will be made later.
