Envisioning the Future of the Tour de Ski
The Tour de Ski, a prestigious staple of cross-country skiing, has captivated athletes and fans alike since its inception in the 2006/2007 season. Traditionally staged across two or three countries, the 19th edition of this exciting event will take place entirely in Italy, specifically in Toblach and Val di Fiemme, running from December 28 to January 5.
Ulf Morten Aune, the national team leader, has raised the possibility that future Tour de Ski events may increasingly be hosted in Italy. He pointed out the growing difficulty in securing willing hosts in various countries during the busy winter holiday season, which poses a challenge to the original multi-country format. Aune remarked, "Finding organizers who can provide the necessary hotel accommodations at competitive rates has become increasingly tough, especially as holiday travelers flock to the mountains."
Despite these venue challenges, Aune reassured enthusiasts that the Tour de Ski's future remains bright. He confidently stated, "I have no fears about the future of Tour de Ski," highlighting its vital importance in the cross-country skiing community and the general commitment to its continuation. The next World Cup calendar is set to be finalized at the forthcoming FIS meeting in Zürich, paving the way for exciting future competitions.
