Flu Wave Hits Norwegian Team – Therese Johaug Makes a Tough Decision
Norwegian skiing star Therese Johaug has decided to isolate herself from the rest of her team participating in the Tour de Ski to avoid contracting the flu that is currently affecting the Norwegian squad.
Johaug, who is second overall in the Tour, just six seconds behind leader Astrid Öyre Slind, mentioned during a press conference that she is taking precautions as illnesses have forced three skiers to leave the competition.
Harald Östberg Amundsen, who was competing in the men's overall, announced he would withdraw due to illness. Along with him, Mathilde Myhrvold and Martin Löwström Nyenget have also left the competition.
Johaug highlighted her desire to maintain a relaxed mindset amidst the health issues within the team and is traveling with her spouse, Nils Jakob Hoff, and their daughter, Kristín. She stated: "We are using our own car, avoiding crowded places, and not eating the same buffet foods as others to minimize the risk of getting sick."
The next leg of the Tour de Ski will take place on Friday in Val di Fiemme, featuring traditional technique sprints. Yle will broadcast the competition starting at 1:10 PM.
