Finnish Ski Association Moves to Liquidate Subsidiary Amid Financial Challenges

In a decisive move, the board of the Finnish Ski Association announced last week its decision to voluntarily liquidate its subsidiary, Nordic Ski Finland Oy. This announcement, made in a statement on Tuesday, is a response to ongoing financial challenges faced by the Association.
The Ski Association has been grappling with financial difficulties, which have unfortunately resulted in staff layoffs. Dissolving the subsidiary is a strategic step in the restructuring process aimed at achieving financial stability.
The primary goal of this change is to streamline operational structures and enhance resource allocation towards essential activities. Importantly, this restructuring will not lead to further staff reductions.
"Change is an endurance sport. We must continue our persistent efforts toward a renewed Ski Association, both financially and operationally. I am particularly pleased that we have taken control of this critical situation and are making decisions that will have a positive impact in the short and long term," commented chairperson Sirpa Korkatti.
Formation of Athlete Committee
In addition to these changes, the board has also appointed members to an athlete committee, initially established earlier in the spring. This initiative aims to integrate athletes' perspectives more effectively into the Ski Association's planning processes.
The athlete committee includes cross-country skiers Eveliina Piippo and Eevi-Inkeri Tossavainen, ski jumpers Antti Aalto and Jenny Rautionaho, as well as Nordic combined athlete Otto Niittykoski and Minja Korhonen. To guide this committee, retired athletes—cross-country skier Virpi Sarasvuo, Nordic combined athlete Hannu Manninen, and ski jumper Arttu Lappi—will serve as mentors. Cross-country skier Anssi Pentsinen will coordinate the committee, which is expected to elect a chairperson in due course. A representative for para sports will be appointed later.
