Italian cross-country skiing star Federico Pellegrino, now 33 years old, has announced his decision to hang up his skis following the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina. This revelation came via his Instagram account, where he reflected on his remarkable journey in the sport.

Pellegrino reminisced about his beginnings, stating:

"In February 2009, I participated in my first international competition at the Junior World Championships. I was a young and carefree skier who had not yet understood his place in the world. Even then, I had a burning passion for skiing and competing. Racing on snow, gasping for breath, was one of the feelings I sought most after."

He continued his heartfelt message, expressing gratitude for his experiences, stating:

"Back then, I couldn't have imagined the sports career and life I've lived. I am happy and proud of the athlete I have become, and how I've learned from sacrifices and mistakes to become a better man: husband, father, friend, teammate, and student who still chooses his own destiny. On February 22, I will end my sports career."

Widely recognized for his sprinting prowess, Pellegrino has left an indelible mark on the sport. He secured the sprint world championship title in Lahti in 2017 and earned silver medals at the Olympic Games in 2018 and 2022. With 17 World Cup sprint victories to his name, he has demonstrated exceptional skill throughout his career.
