Cross-country skiing: Expert Anders Blomquist: "Magnificent in so many different ways"

SVT's expert Anders Blomquist was certainly impressed after Edvin Anger's breakthrough performance, where he secured second place in the pursuit at the Tour de Ski.
- This is the best performance I have seen from a Swedish male skier in distance events for a long, long time, says SVT's expert.

Blomquist emphasizes several components of the race. He states, "It was magnificent in so many different ways: firstly, because he skied faster than all the Norwegians and also because he came from a position further back, not merely benefiting from others but taking the lead and doing the work himself. It was a tough course with fair conditions."

"He broke a barrier"

Anger has delivered several superb performances in the distance races during the Tour de Ski. Blomquist believes finishing fifth in the classic mass start race on Sunday boosted his confidence, and that 22-year-old Anger has improved to become a more complete skier.
- On good days, he can compete for podium places in distance events, which also strengthens him as a sprinter.

Looking ahead, Blomquist sees two promising stages for Anger with the sprint on Friday and the skiathlon on Saturday, moving the competition to Val di Fiemme, where the challenging climb will conclude on Sunday with a mass start. - The final climb won't suit him since he's moving his heavier frame, but he can still fight for good placements, says Blomquist.
