European Champion Jukka Keskisalo Gets Hooked on Ski Waxing – Challenges Finnish National Team
Jukka Keskisalo, the European champion in 3000 meters from 2006, is now passionately involved in ski waxing, motivated by his daughter's skiing activities. In his garage in Joensuu, he has an impressive collection of waxes and waxing equipment.
"Skiing is a wonderful sport. My child participates in it too. The love of a father correlates closely with the glide and grip of the skis," said Keskisalo.
He admits to having become obsessed with ski waxing and is equipped with a profiling machine for optimal results. "We try to create equal starting conditions so that we aren't held back by ski performance," he noted.
Keskisalo challenged the Finnish biathlon team to a light-hearted waxing contest, stating he preferred competition over interviews. "I haven’t been in Kontiolahti for two weeks because it has been closed. The service team has a clear advantage, having home advantage even if they’re from around here," he joked.
In a recent test, Ville Kotikumpu, an expert, compared the performance of skis waxed by Keskisalo and the Finnish service team during a 800-meter skiing exercise, which highlighted the superiority of the team’s skis.
Despite the result, he is enthusiastic about ski waxing as the Finnish service team successfully contributed to Suvi Minkkinen achieving third place in her recent World Cup competition.
