Cross-Country Skiing: Edvin Anger's Blunder Leads to Semifinal Elimination
Originally published in SVT Sport on February 27, 2025
Edvin Anger advanced to the quarterfinals of the World Championship sprint by finishing as the second fastest in the prologue. However, the pressure in the subsequent rounds proved too much for the 22‐year-old Swedish skier. In the semifinal heat, conditions did not favor him and he finished last, trailing by 2.33 seconds behind the Norwegian powerhouse, Johannes Hösflot Kläbo, who eventually took the gold medal.
Anger, visibly disappointed, explained that he is a type of racer who thrives under challenging conditions but was unable to generate the pace he needed that day. While Marcus Grate was eliminated in the prologue, his fellow countrymen Oskar Svensson and Emil Danielsson failed to progress out of the quarterfinals. Ultimately, it was Johannes Hösflot Kläbo who claimed the gold, with silver going to Federico Pellegrino and bronze to Finnish skier Lauri Vuorinen.
