Edvin Anger was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the sprint competition in Lillehammer. Following the race, the 22-year-old was significantly upset, stating, "The equipment is malfunctioning, and I am really frustrated. I felt very good and fit, but the gear issues caused me to lose. I can't believe it."

In the race, Anger had a strong chance to advance to the semifinals, staying among the top two competitors for most of the race, but faded toward the end to finish third.

After the race, Anger displayed his disappointment, openly expressing his anger about the equipment's failure. He said, "I wanted to be on the podium, but due to the defective gear, that's not going to happen. It's really disappointing. I don't know what went wrong; they will need to look at it."

Also competing from Sweden, Emil Danielsson was narrowly eliminated, finishing just .2 seconds outside qualification for the semifinals, and shared his own disappointment about his performance. Danielsson commented, "Last season, I might have been satisfied, but I want to go further, not just be in the quarterfinals."

In the end, Norwegian Johannes Høsflot Klæbo claimed victory with an outstanding performance, with Even Northug finishing as runner-up, and Italian Federico Pellegrino taking third place.

The Lillehammer competitions conclude on Sunday with a 20 km skiathlon for men and women.
