Trude Dybendahl, the celebrated Norwegian cross-country skiing champion, has tragically passed away at the age of 58. The news was confirmed by her son, Torjus Dybendahl Hartz.
Dybendahl left an indelible mark on the world of skiing in 1991 after clinching the World Championship gold medal in the 5 km classical event, where she outperformed the Finnish skier Marja-Liisa Kirvesniemi, who took home the silver. Her Olympic journey was equally impressive, as she secured three consecutive silver medals in the relay at the 1988, 1992, and 1994 Winter Games.
Renowned Norwegian skier Björn Dählie shared his condolences, stating, "It’s very sad to hear about her passing. She was in the prime of her life, and receiving such news is truly heartbreaking."
At the 1991 World Championships in Val di Fiemme, Dybendahl continued to shine, winning a silver medal in the 15 km event and a bronze in the relay. Over the course of her remarkable career, she amassed seven individual World Cup victories and hung up her competitive skis in 1998.
