Potential Loss of World Cup Events for Sweden in Cross-Country Skiing

Sweden is vying for the chance to host World Cup cross-country skiing events that were recently dropped by Nove Mesto due to financial difficulties. These events had been slated for January 31 to February 2 in the 2024/25 season.

However, it seems that Italy, particularly the town of Cogne, is currently in the lead to take over the hosting duties, according to the Italian outlet Aosta Sera. The local tourism council in Cogne has revealed that the arrangement is almost finalized, as 2025 is gearing up to host a series of significant sporting events.

Despite this, the Swedish Ski Federation, under the leadership of Lars Öberg, is still actively engaging in discussions with the International Ski Federation (FIS). They are ready to step in and assume responsibility, contingent on the decisions made by FIS during their upcoming autumn meetings, where a definitive choice is anticipated.
