Long-distance skiing: Anders Byström sees a future tour winner in Edvin Anger: "In a few years, perhaps"

Edvin Anger is currently the best Swedish performer in the Tour de Ski after two stages, sitting in fourth place overall. Anders Byström, the national team manager, is optimistic about Anger's prospects in the coming years.

"We shouldn’t expect him to win a Tour de Ski just yet, but in a few years, perhaps," Byström commented to SVT Sport.

With strong competitors like Ebba Andersson, Linn Svahn, and William Poromaa, it is a notable achievement for the 22-year-old Anger to be leading among the Swedish contenders. Byström believes that Anger’s capacity for oxygen uptake will enhance his performance in distance races.

He underlined Anger’s need for greater confidence, stating that being in a top position now is vital for his burgeoning career.

Upcoming Challenges

"Can he achieve a top 10 finish? That would be great. We know that the final hill is not his strongest area, and much will be determined there," he pondered. The next race will be a 20 km individual start scheduled for today at 11:30 for men and 14:45 for women.
