Cross-Country Skiing: Calle Halfvarsson Responds to Norwegian Claims
Originally published in SVT Sport on December 06, 2024
In response to remarks made by Lotta Udnes Weng, a prominent Norwegian skier, Calle Halfvarsson has stated, "I call them the whining team." Weng pointedly remarked that Swedish athletes often complain about ski wax and conditions whenever they fail to podium in competitions.
Weng expressed her empathy for Swedish wax technicians but noted that after every race, when Sweden doesn't perform well, it seems like the skis are blamed for the shortcomings. She claimed, "They are the best at complaining," in an interview with the newspaper VG.
Norwegian teammate Anne Kjersti KalvÄ echoed Weng's sentiments, arguing that such complaints create negative morale within the team.
The ongoing rivalry between Swedish and Norwegian skiers continues to heat up, echoing past tensions in the sport as both teams navigate the pressures of elite competition.
