Cross-country skiers censored Instagram photos due to lawsuit between Atomic and Rottefella

Due to a prolonged legal conflict, national team athletes had to censor several images on Instagram.

Several Norwegian national team skiers chose not to showcase their equipment during a training camp due to ongoing litigation.

The Norwegian company Rottefella holds the patent on ski bindings released in 2018 that allow skiers to adjust bindings without removing their skis. However, in 2021, Amer Sports introduced their own versions of the same technology under the Atomic and Salomon brands, prompting Rottefella to file a lawsuit.

The long-standing patent feud culminated in an agreement where sponsors of involved athletes can now use their gear openly, following the resolution of the lawsuit on November 26, 2024, between Rottefella and Amer Sports.

Prominent athletes such as Anne Kjersti KalvÄ and Tiril Udnes Weng had recently posted training photos with censored images of the Atomic bindings. They expressed that the changes were necessary to comply with the ongoing legal situation. Now, with the agreement in place, they can use their Atomic gear freely during the season, which includes upcoming competitions at Ruka.
