Cross-Country Skier Ante Positive About New Accessibility Initiative in Idre
Originally published in SVT Nyheter on December 04, 2024
Arnt-Christian 'Ante' Furuberg is one of several para-athletes highlighting the challenges faced at ski facilities in Sweden, where accessibility is often lacking. As an elite skier preparing for the World Championships in Trondheim, Ante is encouraged by a deal between Parasport Sweden and Idre Fjäll to enhance the ski facility, making it more accessible for para-athletes. The agreement includes adapting the skiing designs and training staff about the needs of para-athletes.
Ante emphasizes the importance of both winter and summer training accessibility not only for elite athletes like himself but also for local families. Improved accessibility will allow visitors to engage more easily with para-sports, witness elite training sessions, and test various sports facilitated by the newly provided adaptive sit-skis sponsored by a local bank. This initiative is expected to broaden participation in para-sports and create a recruitment base for future athletes.
