From September 15 to 23, 2024, the picturesque Val di Fiemme in Italy became a bustling center for cross-country skiing as it hosted an exhilarating roller ski training camp. Athletes and coaches congregated from 11 different European nations—including Bosnia and Herzegovina, Estonia, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Romania, and Serbia—making it a true melting pot of talent.

A total of 33 participants took part in this intense week of training, comprising 22 athletes (10 women and 12 men) and 11 coaches. Over the course of the camp, athletes completed approximately 15 hours of roller skiing spread across seven challenging sessions. These sessions focused on enhancing their skills through technical parkour drills and group exercises tailored for both classic and skating techniques.

However, roller skiing was only one facet of the comprehensive training regimen. The camp also emphasized overall physical conditioning, featuring specialized activities such as pole running, technical skills practice, mountain hiking, and strength training. Participants had the chance to assess their endurance and skills through a 3000-meter running test and a roller ski competition at the renowned Passo Lavazè track.

In addition to the physical challenges, the camp provided theoretical sessions for both coaches and athletes. Topics covered varied from video analysis and ski preparation to nutrition strategies. A standout moment was the presentation by Valentina Vuerich, a wax technician for the Norwegian World Cup team, who provided invaluable insights on ski selection and waxing techniques. Coaches also benefited from specialized lectures that focused on ski technique and effective athlete training plans.

The FDP Cross-Country Summer Camp was not only a hub of hard work but also a platform for athletes to build friendships and network. Participants relaxed and bonded over social activities, which included a vibrant Pizza Party at a local pizzeria and interactive Social Games, fostering a sense of community in a fun atmosphere.

Ultimately, the FDP Cross-Country Summer Camp in Val di Fiemme proved to be an overwhelming success, offering all participants a rich experience that harmoniously combined physical development, technical improvement, and meaningful social interactions.
