In a shocking turn of events during the second lap of the Janteloppet, part of the Ski Classics series named in honor of renowned Norwegian skier Petter Northug, Swedish skier Max Novak found himself in a major crash. The incident occurred when an official, attempting to provide hydration to the racers, inadvertently stepped onto the track, leading to a dangerous collision with both Novak and the race leader, Torleif Syrstad.

Novak did not hold back in his description of the mishap, stating it felt like "an attempted murder." Despite the chaos, he managed to rebound impressively, fighting his way back up the ranks to ultimately secure a third-place finish. He crossed the line 3 minutes and 19.8 seconds behind Syrstad, who claimed victory in the race.
