Calle Halfvarsson withdrew from the skiathlon race in Lillehammer early in the competition after experiencing back problems. At the five-kilometer mark, he found himself trailing 19 seconds behind the leaders. In his own words, Halfvarsson remarked, “I didn't recognize my body; I lack the strength I need.” He had noticed issues even during warming up but initially thought he would try to push through.
After stepping off the track, he expressed uncertainty about participating in the upcoming event in Davos, stating, "I need to go to Stockholm to have my back checked first.” As expected, the race resulted in a full Norwegian podium, with world cup leader Harald Østberg Amundsen taking the top spot. William Poromaa finished as the best Swede in 11th place.
