Calle Halfvarsson made a comeback at the SM in Kalix after illness but fell short in the 10 km classic event. Despite starting well in the wet and loose tracks around Kalix ski stadium, he quickly encountered difficulties and lost ground during the race. He completed the race in 51st position, 3 minutes and 40 seconds behind the winner, Eric Rosjö.
Halfvarsson admitted, "I was not better than this today. I try at the beginning but then it goes too slow uphill. I find it hard in these conditions and I become less motivated."
The 36-year-old looks ahead to the sprint relay tomorrow and has no plans to return home early, although he confessed that the upcoming 50 km race feels uncertain given his current condition.
Rosjö celebrated his first SM gold after a strong finish, beating Fredrik Andersson and Leo Johansson. He said, "After a shaky season, it feels great to finish on a high. It was exhausting but obviously I’m in good form."
The article reflects the challenges faced by athletes in high-pressure situations, highlighting both the physical and mental aspects of competitive skiing.
