Brutal Videos from Backstage – Krista Pärmäkoski Had a Strange Experience at the Historic World Championship
Krista Pärmäkoski fought to finish seventh as the best Finnish athlete in the women’s 50 kilometers freestyle at the World Championships. The race was historic as women competed in the 50-kilometer event for the first time in a major championship.
Pärmäkoski felt significant discomfort after the race. Yle's video footage captured her struggle to walk, needing assistance to get up from the ground.
After the race, Pärmäkoski revealed that hydration stations were often missed during the grueling race. "It was really soft underfoot, skis sinking deep by 15–20 centimeters. This is truly a brutal condition," her coach Ville Maunuksela stated, emphasizing the severe challenges.
Pärmäkoski mentioned that she was so drained that when someone offered her a sausage-and-fry dish during the race, she would have eaten it. "I felt hungry, which is unusual during a race," she admitted.
Maunuksela highlighted that managing one’s pace and energy was crucial in such conditions. They reflected on the historical aspect of this race and acknowledged the exceptional effort of all participants, especially under such challenging conditions.
