Bomber boys, Storm girls ski to win
LAKE PLACID — The area varsity Nordic ski teams competed at the Adirondack Mountain Club’s Cascade Welcome Center on Thursday for a 6-kilometer classic race.
The Lake Placid boys, which scored 11 points, narrowly edged out Saranac Lake by one. The Red Storm girls also picked up a win with eight points, while the Blue Bomber girls didn’t have enough skiers to score points.
Lake Placid’s Aidan Fay won the boys race in 21 minutes, 45 seconds. Fay was followed by teammate Colin Francis (22:01), who placed second. Saranac Lake’s Mason Stoddard was third in 22:54.
On the girls side, the Red Storm’s Tyler Burth continued her winning ways, securing the top spot in 24:34. The Blue Bombers’ Maya Garrison (25:24) was second, while Saranac Lake’s Kaylee Holmes (26:02) was third. Zarela Gulli was Keene’s top finisher, placing ninth in 32:00.
The Nordic ski teams will race at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the Dewey Mountain Recreation Center. Following that meet, the squads will compete at Mount Van Hovenberg against teams from around the state in the Section VII Invitational next Saturday.
