Blue Bombers Nordic Sweeps Invite

LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid varsity boys and girls Nordic ski teams swept the Section VII Nordic Invitational at their home course at Mount Van Hoevenberg Saturday morning.
The Blue Bomber boys won the varsity meet with a total of 19 points, while Guilderland finished a close second with 22 points. Saranac Lake placed third with 24 points in a nine-team race. In the boys’ division, Aidan Fay led his team with a second place finish in 19 minutes, 58 seconds. Guilderland’s Landon Kinal won the race in 19:50.7, and Shenendehowa’s Jacob Perkins came in third at 20:02.1. Colin Francis was fourth in 20:08.9, narrowly edging out Saranac Lake’s Mason Stoddard, who finished fifth in 21:11.2. Additional strong finishes for Lake Placid included Connor Mannion (23:10.9), Trey Mariano (23:17.9), and Will Coffin (24:42.7).
On the girls’ side, Adirondack High School’s Cora Hinsdill posted the winning time of 21:40.1, with Shenendehowa’s Raquelle Landa taking second at 22:30.3. Maya Garrison, the top area skier for Lake Placid, finished third overall in 23:46.7, while her teammate Leila Fey placed fourth in 24:02.2. Holly Erenstone and Rose Wenzler completed the team’s effort by finishing 14th and 22nd respectively. Saranac Lake’s Tyler Burth led his team with a seventh place (24:18.0), followed by Pepper Laxson, Cadence Kennedy, and Kaylee Holmes, with Lila Zobel finishing for the Red Storm in 21st place.
The local Nordic teams are set to return to league racing at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday at Mount Van Hoevenberg.
