Cross-Country Skiing: Bad Weather Awaits at the World Championships: 'It's Going to Be a Battle'

The weather in Trondheim where the World Championships are being held has seen significant rainfall, and forecasts predict that the poor conditions, mainly rain and wind, will persist for the remainder of the championship.

Competitors such as Edvin Anger and Calle Halfvarsson are concerned that these conditions could make racing more challenging, with Halfvarsson noting, "It could set hurdles in the way, it can complicate things," while expressing his determination to adapt.

"I'm going to try to convince myself that this weather suits me. Historically, I have performed better when the conditions are tough. I have no problem with rain and wind, but if the track gets sloppy, it can be problematic," Halfvarsson commented.

"I know it will be really tough. It’s going to be a battle. But it’s equal for everyone," he added.

William Poromaa, on the other hand, is more concerned about the spectators, expressing compassion for the more than 20,000 people who want to watch the events live each competition day. "I don't think we competitors think too much about the weather. But I feel a bit sorry for those who want to come and watch," he concluded.

Today, the men's skiathlon will take place, starting at 14:00 with SVT Sport providing live coverage of the race.

Further details: The women’s skiathlon is scheduled for tomorrow, and heavy rain warnings have been issued for southern parts of Trøndelag, where Trondheim is located, according to reports.
