At the Nordic Ski World Championships in Trondheim, Austrian cross-country skier Lukas Mrkonjic experienced a major disappointment. During the qualification round for the season’s highlight event, the 26‐year-old from Salzburg crashed so badly that he finished in 128th place, missing the qualifying mark.
In an interview with ORF, Mrkonjic described the moment vividly: "My ski got cut and then I ended up with a belly mark," he said, his face filled with unmistakable emotion as tears rolled down. "Sometimes, that’s just how life goes. Some days you simply can’t do anything about it."
The incident was all the more painful as it occurred at the start of the World Championships, and it was followed by similar misfortune for his ÖSV teammate Benjamin Moser, who also crashed during his run and lost his chance at a semifinal spot.
The article captures the raw emotion and disappointment felt by the athletes, marking a difficult start to what was expected to be an important competitive season at the international level.
