Astrid Öyre Slind came with an enormous charge in the final stretch and managed to overtake Therese Johaug, winning the 20 km freestyle with individual start.

  • "I don't know what's happening; all of a sudden, all the races are going great, but I'll take it. I've trained really well and made it work," Öyre Slind said to SVT Sport.

In the final stretch, she was reportedly as fast as several of the top male skiers.

  • We probably had faster tracks, laughs Öyre Slind, who finished the 20 km in 48:55 – compared to Harald Østberg Amundsen's 44:05.

"It was a Swedish-Norwegian union that allowed me to win, and I have to thank Moa," a smiling Öyre Slind added.

  • I couldn’t have done anything differently and got the best out of it, Johaug said after the race.

Moa Ilar, who started one minute before Öyre Slind, also had a great race, finishing eighth as the top Swedish skier and believes she has secured a spot for the World Championships.

  • It was a fun race that suited me with a high pace all the way down and really nice to get this confirmation, Ilar said.

In the third leg of the Tour de Ski, there was a tight race at the front, where Johaug led just ahead of Kerttu Niskanen and Victoria Carl. At that point, Öyre Slind was 16 seconds behind, but no one could match her finish.

Jessie Diggins, leading overall, was half a minute behind the front-runners at halfway and finished 36 seconds behind Öyre Slind, retaining her overall lead, though it has significantly shrunk.
