Astrid Slind secured victory in the 20 km free race on Tuesday during the first stage of the Tour de Ski held in Toblach, Italy. The Norwegian, who finished strongly, outpaced her compatriot and leading favorite Therese Johaug (+ 3''3).
Earlier in the day, fellow Norwegian Harald Amundsen had won the men's 20 km race at the same venue, marking a successful day for the Norwegian team.
Slind, 36, had already claimed victory in Davos before the holidays. While American Jessie Diggins finished in sixth place, she remains the overall leader but has lost time to her closest competitors, with Finnish skiers Kerttu Niskanen (+ 22'') and Slind (+ 32'') now trailing behind her.
Meanwhile, the best-ranked French skier, Melissa Gal, placed 35th (+ 2'38'') and is currently 42nd in the overall standings, 6'43'' behind Diggins. The next challenge will be a 15 km pursuit set for Wednesday.
