Anna Dyvik, a well-known name in Swedish cross-country skiing, has announced her decision to retire from professional skiing at the conclusion of this season. The 28-year-old shared her thoughts with SVT Sport, expressing that while it is a bittersweet moment, she feels resolute about her choice.
For years, Dyvik has battled persistent back issues, having first undergone surgery for a herniated disc in 2012. Despite these challenges, she made her World Cup debut in Stockholm at the Slottsprinten in 2016. Among her career highlights are a commendable fourth-place finish in sprint events in both Falun in 2018 and Trondheim in 2020. Yet, her journey has not been without obstacles, as health concerns have affected her ability to compete, particularly after participating in the demanding Tour de Ski.
Dyvik's impressive résumé includes representing Sweden at one World Championship and two Olympic Games. Additionally, she has secured significant national accolades, including two gold medals at the Swedish Championships (SM) in sprinting and three golds at the Junior World Championships.
