This winter, Stina Nilsson is poised to make her return to cross-country skiing, a move that could pave the way for her rejoining the national team. National team manager Anders Byström has hinted that Nilsson may have a chance to qualify for the upcoming Ski World Championships in Trondheim, despite her recent switch to competing in the long-distance Ski Classics cup this season.

Nilsson, who stepped away from the sport four years ago to concentrate on biathlon, is now leaving biathlon behind to pursue her passion for skiing once more. Byström noted that with her formidable skill set, Nilsson could indeed compete at the Championships, provided she qualifies just like any other athlete.

However, doubts linger about her participation. Linn Svahn, a former teammate of Nilsson, raised concerns about her potential presence at the World Championships. She believes that Nilsson will either fully commit to long-distance events like the Vasaloppet or refrain from competing altogether. Svahn emphasized that to be successful in the Championships, Nilsson would need to tailor her training specifically for that goal, rather than solely prepping for long-distance races.

Discussions surrounding the Ski Classics and Nilsson's qualification for the national team continue to be a hot topic, with Byström keeping the door ajar for her to potentially stage a competitive comeback.
