Vintersport: Andersson missade pallen – blev fyra när Johaug vann

Ebba Andersson, 27, was just shy of claiming her first podium spot of the season, finishing fourth in the skiathlon following a dramatic finish.

Therese Johaug won decisively, taking over the overall lead in the Tour de Ski by finishing 30 seconds ahead of the second-placed Teresa Stadlober from Austria.

— "So unbelievably close to the season’s first podium spot," Andersson told SVT Sport afterwards.

The World Cup season in general, and the Tour de Ski in particular, have been challenging for Andersson; the reigning world champion on the distance had been looking for a rebound in the 20 kilometers skiathlon.

  • After about 12 kilometers, Therese Johaug took off, leaving Andersson to battle for a podium place.

— "It was a bit too tough a pace for me to keep up," Andersson admitted regarding Johaug's speed.

On the final stretch, the race turned dramatic as Andersson appeared set to secure a podium finish, but ultimately finished fourth.

— "So unbelievably close to the season’s first podium. My timing at the finish line was off," Andersson said, adding that her race earned a passing grade but nothing more. Her inability to secure third place stung.

In addition to Johaug's victory, Moa Ilar finished in 14th place, while Linn Svahn came in 21st.
