Cross-country Skiing: Amundsen Withdraws from Tour de Ski

Norwegian titleholder Harald Östberg Amundsen has dropped out of the Tour de Ski after the fourth of seven stages. He woke up on Thursday with a sore throat and is already on his way home, as communicated by team doctor Ove Feragen on the rest day.

On New Year’s Day, Amundsen won the pursuit in Toblach, where he had placed third in the overall standings, sitting 57 seconds behind his leading compatriot Johannes Hösflot Klæbo.

The Tour de Ski will continue on Friday with the fifth stage in Val di Fiemme, the venue for the Olympic cross-country competitions in 2026, with a sprint scheduled for 14:45. The stage race will conclude on Sunday with the final climb up the Alpe Cermis.

Current Standings

Amundsen's withdrawal now sees the third overall place go to Austrian Mika Vermeulen (+1:23 minutes) behind Klæbo and Edvin Anger of Sweden (+36 seconds). The best German in the Tour standings is Friedrich Moch (Isny), ranking 14th with a time 2:16 minutes behind.
