Tour de Ski: Amundsen Defeats Klaebo in 20 Kilometer Freestyle
Stand: 31.12.2024 13:25 Uhr
On the third stage, there was a surprise: Johannes Høsflot Klaebo, who had won the two previous stages, faced serious challenges. The leader of the Tour de Ski struggled significantly over the 20 kilometers freestyle in Toblach. The victory returned to a Norwegian. Friedrich Moch narrowly missed the top ten.
The clear favorite faced difficulties: Johannes Høsflot Klaebo fell far behind after just 2.1 kilometers, and his deficit increased with each checkpoint. Klaebo crossed the line with a staggering 46 seconds behind his compatriot Harald Østberg Amundsen. The defending champion triumphed with a lead of 21.2 seconds over Simen Hegstad Krüger (NOR), while British skier Andrew Musgrave finished in third place, 28.4 seconds back. Despite losing 46 seconds from his previously held minute lead over Amundsen in the overall standings, Klaebo will still don the leader’s jersey on New Year’s Day.
Bright Spots for the DSV Team
So far, the DSV team has had disappointing performances in the Tour de Ski. However, in this freestyle event, both Friedrich Moch and Janosch Brugger demonstrated solid races. Brugger began the race quickly, even leading by three seconds against winner Amundsen at kilometer 2.1, leaving the major favorite Klaebo behind by 20 seconds. However, as the race progressed, his strength dwindled. Ultimately, the 27-year-old managed to secure a place among the top 20, finishing with a time of +1:21.4 minutes behind Amundsen.
Moch, who finished second in last year’s Tour, improved from 39th place in the mass start to 12th, managing his pace wisely and concluding the race with a shortfall of 1:07.3 minutes, narrowly missing the top ten.
