Mika Vermeulen has managed to hold onto his fourth position in the overall standings of the Tour de Ski after the classic sprint event held in Val di Fiemme. In the sprint, held on January 3, 2025, Vermeulen faced a difficult race alongside Teresa Stadlober in the women's category, both exiting in the quarter-finals. The victories were claimed by Nadine Fähndrich from Switzerland and Norway's Johannes Hösflot Klaebo, marking Klaebo's 90th victory in the World Cup.

Vermeulen advanced to the third position in the overall rankings following the withdrawal of last year's champion, Harald Østberg Amundsen, due to illness. However, after the race, Vermeulen fell short behind Erik Valnes of Norway and is now merely one second ahead of Haavard Moseby, with Valnes trailing by 13 seconds. Teresa Stadlober, competing in the women's category, also maintained her ninth position overall despite finishing 23rd in the daily ranking. The overall leader continues to be Astrid Öyre Slind from Norway, who holds an eight-second lead.

The Tour de Ski's next event on January 4 features a 20 km skiathlon for both men and women. The excitement continues with the challenging ascent to Alpe Cermis scheduled for January 5.
