Frida Karlsson Announces Her Final Race

Frida Karlsson, a well-known name in the world of cross-country skiing, has made an unexpected announcement about her future in the sport. At just 27 years old and already a medal-winner of many competitions, she revealed that the upcoming season of 2026/2027 will mark her final chapter as a professional athlete. Frida's decision stems from a significant moment she experienced a year and a half ago while driving to Piteå, where she was inspired by the way Charlotte Kalla ended her career at home in 2022.
Karlsson has stated that the Ski-VM in Falun will be her last international event. However, she is not stepping away from skiing entirely. She intends to close her competitive career at the Swedish Championships in Sollefteå, a special event planned for 2027 to honor her departure from the sport. Mia, her mother and the overseer of the ski club, has confirmed that the event is designed to celebrate Frida's accomplishments in front of her local supporters.
Mia recalls their meaningful car conversation when Frida articulated her desire for a farewell similar to Kalla's. She emphasized the significance of careful planning to ensure a memorable conclusion to her athletic journey. Kalla's remarkable farewell, where she clinched two championship golds in Piteå, sets a high standard for Karlsson's upcoming performance in Sollefteå.
