Andreas Fjorden Ree, a 24-year-old rookie skier, proved his serious intentions for the World Championships by knocking out the competition in the 10-kilometer freestyle event at Beitostølen. Prior to this impressive victory, he marked his presence with a fourth-place finish in the classical race on Saturday, which featured a strong field.
On Sunday, Ree elevated his performance even further, and his astonishing time caught the commentators by surprise as he continued to extend his lead over others, despite the top competitors starting behind him. Post-race, Ree remained calm as he was interviewed, celebrating his significant victory with a lead of more than a minute over runner-up Magne Haga.
The event attracted strong competitors including Iver Tildheim Andersen, Simen Hegstad Krüger, and Martin Løwstrøm Nyenget, all of whom were unable to surpass Ree's remarkable performance. This victory echoes Ree's stunning win at the Norwegian Championships in Harstad in 2022.
With this win, the 24-year-old made a statement about his ambitions for the skiing elite as the season progresses.
