German biathlete Vanessa Voigt’s dream of competing in the World Championships has been crushed by ongoing health challenges. According to a statement from the German Ski Federation, the 27-year-old, who is a former World and Olympic champion, has decided to end her season following repeated medical checks that revealed persistent issues with her respiratory system.
Voigt, who has participated in very few competitions this season due to her breathing problems, stated on Instagram that she no longer feels capable of continuing in more races. She expressed that her health remains her top priority and acknowledged that the season had been a roller coaster affecting both her mental and physical well-being.
Looking ahead, the focus for Voigt is on recovery with an eye toward the next Olympic Games in Italy. Meanwhile, her absence will be keenly felt at the World Championships in Lenzerheide, Switzerland.
